Fire Drill

Dear Burnham Families,

As a school district, we are committed to the safety of all students who attend Burnham Elementary School. We want to share with you what we have in place to provide for the safety of our students. We have fire drills to practice what we would do if there was a fire on campus. Today 4/12/2023, we had another Fire Drill.
We also have tornado and earthquake drills to prepare the students for what they should do if a tornado or earthquake occurred while they were at school. We have bus evacuation drills to practice for a bus emergency. We also have intruder drills to lock down the school if someone enters who should not be in the school. We have also trained teachers and staff and discussed with students what they should do if an active shooter enters a campus. As hard as this is to even think about, we know it is very important to be prepared for any type of emergency that may occur. It is important to talk to your child about safety at school. It is also important to discuss each of these emergency situations with your child. We have coordinated each of the drills with the different community associations and have a collaborative team approach to keep our schools safe. We have worked with the Burnham Police Department and with their Safety Task Force to assist in planning and preparing all staff for an intruder or active shooter situation. Burnham Elementary School is dedicated to the ongoing planning and implementation of emergency procedures. Please feel free to contact us, if you have any questions. If an emergency situation were to happen, go to our district website at http://www.d1545.org for information and assistance.

Sincerely,

Mr. Geraci
